Our school Makerspace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur.
In our Makerspace students have the chance to design, create, engineer, build and collaborate. It is a place to tinker, try new ideas, solve problems and build resilience using both high tech and low tech items.
Did you know Makerspace promotes learning through play? Students play, explore and experience informal learning opportunities. Connections between home, school and our community are developed.
Some of the activities we have done in Makerspace so far this year include:
- Lego Station - An area to use your imagination and complete Lego challenges.
- Code Club - Here students learn block code by using blue-bots, ozobots, Spheros and Code.org. Learning and challenges start easy but become much much harder.
- Knitting Club - Learn how to knit. Students learn the basics and develop a skill they will keep for life.
- Stop Motion Animation - Create your own movie just like Wallace and Grommet.
- Principal's Challenge - Mr Tonnet has devised a series of challenges which will test your ingenuity, creativity, resilience and collaboration skills.
- Art and Craft - Have fun and learn how to make things using materials you would have around the house.
Both infants and primary get invited to Makerspace sessions. It is amazing to see the growth in creativity resilience and skills.

βοΈπ Amazing Writing in Year 5! πβοΈ Our Year 5 writers have been busy applying their literacy learning to craft engaging and informative factual paragraphs. Using fact files on topics of interest, students identified strong main ideas, selected relevant supporting evidence, and carefully drafted, revised, and edited their work to strengthen their writing. They challenged themselves to write well-structured sentences using technical vocabulary and rich word choices, ensuring their paragraphs not only informed the reader but captured their interest from the very first sentence. We are incredibly proud of the persistence, creativity, and growing confidence our young authors are demonstrating in their Writing Workshops. ππ Keep up the fantastic work, Year 5!

π₯ποΈ Year 1 Celebrates Pentecost! ποΈπ₯ Our Year 1 students have been learning about the significance of Pentecost, exploring how the Holy Spirit came upon Jesusβ disciples and gave them the courage to share Godβs love with the world. As part of their learning, students discovered why Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Church and how we are called to live as Godβs people through unity, love, and faith. Wearing their vibrant flame crowns, Year 1 celebrated the Holy Spirit that lives within each of us, empowering us to spread kindness, joy, and hope in our school and community. π₯ͺπ Serving Our Community with Head, Heart and Hands ππ₯ͺ At St Andrewβs Primary School, our staff proudly come together twice each term to prepare sandwiches for those in need as part of our partnership with the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies). This simple yet meaningful act of service supports people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity across our wider Western Sydney community. Through this initiative, our teachers put their faith into action, living out the Gospel call to serve others with compassion, generosity, and kindness. By working in solidarity for those less fortunate, we demonstrate discipleship through our head, heart, and hands, showing that even small acts of care can make a big difference. π Exciting News from St Andrewβs! π Congratulations to Ava from Year 6 Blue, who has been selected to showcase her Lego Diorama MOC (My Own Creation) at this yearβs Sydney BrickBuilt Show on Saturday, 30th May! π§±β¨ Avaβs creative build, designed on a 32 x 32 stud baseplate, was chosen from entries submitted by talented junior builders aged 9β16, highlighting her imagination, storytelling, and building skills. We are incredibly proud of Ava and this wonderful achievement! πππ Families are invited to support Ava and explore the amazing displays at the Sydney BrickBuilt Show. This term, Year 6 have been hard at work, and loving using their whiteboards during learning! π From sharing their great thinking, to recalling prior knowledge, AND practising new skills, this simple addition to our routine has helped make learning more interactive, engaging, and fun for all ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈπ¬ The students love the boards so much, they've even implemented them through a variety of games during wet weather days! Our Year 4 students put their persuasive writing skills to the test this week with a very unusual challengeβ¦ convincing their chairs to come back to class! πͺβοΈ The chairs were apparently tired of being rocked on, tipped back and dragged across the floor, so students created clever persuasive posters explaining why they deserved another chance! π A fun and creative way to showcase imagination, humour and powerful writing skills. πβ¨
