Infants sports carnival 2015

10 Sep 2015

St Andrew's Primary students competing in running race
Speedy runners

On Wednesday September 2, the infants children had their annual sports carnival.

It began with a march to the oval, followed by running races and novelty events.

There was lots of colour, streamers and cheering!

The winning house was Lawson, closely followed by Cook, then Macquarie and Sturt.

A fun day was had by all!

Congratulations to Miss Muscat and Miss Boustani! Tonight they were officially commissioned by Rev. Father Peter Williams as early career teachers in Catholic Education, Parramatta Diocese. This special celebration highlighted that Catholic Education is a vocation of service, grounded in faith and dedicated to the growth and wellbeing of every student. We are so proud of their commitment to their students and our community. Wishing them every blessing as they begin this journey. βœ¨πŸ™πŸ“š

As we continue our Lenten journey, our community is embracing this sacred season with weekly prayer, reflection, and a renewed commitment to preparing our hearts for the joy of Easter 🎚️ Lent invites us to slow down, look inward, and walk more closely with Christ, and doing this together strengthens us in faith and purpose πŸ™ Our Year 6 classrooms are also a buzz of activity with the FIA team making beaded bracelets and crocheting scrunchies. Please encourage the children to ask parents and carers to visit our CARITAS store which will be set up on the front playground in the morning from 8:20 am on Thursday 26 March and after school in the COLA. All bracelets and scrunchies are $2 and all proceeds go to Project Compassion. Remind children that there will be NO CASH payments. We warmly invite families to support this important mission. Your contribution helps CARITAS Australia continue their life‑changing work. You can donate through the link below and be part of a global movement of compassion and hope: πŸ‘‰ https://www.projectcompassion.org.au/fundraisers/standrewsprimaryschoolmarayong May this season draw us closer to God and to one another as we pray, give, and prepare for the promise of Easter.

Our Year 6 students are BEAMING with joy this week! 🀩 Their brand new souvenir shirts arrived yesterday, and today we saw smiles all around as they got to wear them with pride for the first time to school! πŸ‘•πŸ”΅πŸŸ‘ At the beginning of Term 1, we came together as a grade and brainstormed many ideas for our T-shirt. There were 3 common themes overall: Coming together, Faith in God and making Kindness our Purpose. It was through deep discussions that we voted this year's theme to be: United in Mission - a true reflection of the wonderful, dedicated leaders we have at St Andrew's. 🌟

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in our school Cross Country! Thankfully, the cooler weather made for great running conditions. We were so impressed by the children’s stamina, determination and perseverance as they challenged themselves throughout the course. It was also wonderful to see such positive sportsmanship, with students encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s efforts. We are very proud of the way everyone gave it their best! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘πŸŒŸ

Wow! Our library was full of keen students today, excited to read with a buddy! πŸ“šβœ¨ Reading together is such a wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence, develop their fluency and share the joy of stories with one another. It was lovely to see the enthusiasm, teamwork and encouragement as students supported each other in their reading. Moments like these remind us how powerful reading can be when it is shared. πŸ’›πŸ“–

🎭 Year 5 Drama in Religion Our Year 5 students brought our Religion inquiry to life by creating powerful freeze frames to explore the concepts of suffering and hope. Working in groups, they used body position, facial expression, levels, and space to dynamically represent their assigned words through dramatic poses. Students drew on real-life experiences to thoughtfully connect their ideas to the meaning of suffering and hope. Their creativity, teamwork, and confidence as actors and speakers were truly exceptional. We are so proud of the depth of thinking and imagination they showed in this learning experience! Check out the montage of photos showcasing their: amazing & dramatic, team freeze-frames. ✨

😍 Year 1 Time Travel Through Communication! πŸ€“ πŸ“° On Monday, our Year 1 students stepped back in time during a special walk through the St Andrew’s Communication Museum. They explored a fascinating range of communication devices from different eras and discovered how people shared messages long before smartphones existed. Inspired by their museum visit, students will now use their observations and ideas to write an imaginative story about discovering a communication device. We can’t wait to read the creative adventures they come up with! βœ¨πŸ“œ
